Ferguson Photocatalytic Polymer Group
Next generation photocatalytic polymers

Welcome to the Ferguson Group
We are a dynamic and enthusiastic group based in the School of Chemistry at the University of Birmingham, with an interest in polymer materials and light-driven reactions.
In our group, we focus on the production of functional photocatalytic materials by combining photocatalytic chemistry with polymer science.

The group investigates two distinct photocatalytic polymer materials:

• Conjugated Polymer Photoredox Catalysts.

• Photocatalytic Vinyl-based Polymers.

We design systems for specific applications in organic chemistry, using material design to access reaction space that is currently unattainable, create more readily recoverable materials, and develop dynamic systems that respond to external stimuli.
Additionally, we investigate fundamental questions about how a material's characteristics (e.g. porosity, chemical nature, and crystallinity) affect its overall photophysical properties.
